In today's America, foreign policy is a hot topic that comes with a great deal of controversy, as well as many opinions and arguments. Terrorist attacks, wars, a new President, with that you have only began to slightly delve into the factors of today's foreign policy climate. When it comes to topics as such, or politics in general, people usually land on one of two sides. Idealist or Realist. The typical idealist will tell you that they believe in the power of good over evil. Idealist believe that the majority of humans have good intentions, and are good people inside and out. This said, an Idealist would completely disagree with anything even relative to a travel ban, or restrictions on foreigners. They believe situations like this are unfair, or unjust. I believe in Realism. Meaning that I understand that it is in human nature for people to act in their best interests, or act in accordance with their own personal morals. Thus, the situation is what it is and must be dealt with accordingly. We can begin with the evident history of terrorism within our nation's borders. Successful and unsuccessful, there have been many attempts on the lives and well being of our citizens. These attempts have come from many sources, and if not based in foreign countries, usually inspired by recruiters from other countries. It goes without saying that this needs to be stopped. As a realist, when there is a problem at hand, you recognize it, and deal with it. An outstanding majority of these terror situations have been caused by people and groups outside of our borders. A simple solution is to limit acceptance of foreigners that may have roots in the places these attacks have come from. To an idealist this is completely wrong. But as someone who deals in facts and facts only, this is the only way to protect our soil and the many people who inhabit it. The lives of innocent men, women, and children isn't necessarily something I believe we can take risks on, or be "friendly" or "politicall y correct" about. We can't continue to unknowingly accept future murderers and terrorists with open arms. We need to thoroughly screen people attempting to gain entry into the U.S.. It may inconvenience good people but that's the price we'll pay to protect our own. The same realistic ideals apply in relation to the U.S.'s participation in other people's wars and conflicts. As a realist, I believe we should be concerned with our problems and our problems only. In regards to safety, we draw more enemies and potential threats by constantly choosing sides or participating in situations that don't directly affect us. In regards to spending, we dish out enormous amounts of money in order to have a presence in these foreign lands or fight for other countries. An idealist believes that as a nation of power it is our duty to protect and serve others. Realism has led me to believe that this is untrue. We have to do for ourselves first and foremost. We have to protect our own first and foremost. Anything that can threaten that should be eliminated from our priorities. In all aspects, I believe that these entities we assist, will always be out for themselves and will eventually abandon, if not totally betray us if necessary. Investing in shaky bonds such as these can only do us harm. In terms of the War on ISIS, I believe we should continue efforts to infiltrate and destroy all entities whose identity is based upon a threat to our homeland. Realistically speaking, many groups including ISIS exist with a purpose to end as many American lives as possible. These groups become more sophisticated, trained, and experienced by the day. There is no lock on the door and no curtains on the windows, only shades yellowed with age, to be pulled down at nightas if you needed privacy out here in the boondocks. Dads big over-stuffed armchair is set beside the well-stocked bookcase where he enjoys passing a hot afternoon with a good book. His bed, an old army cot, serves as a couch when company comes. One lone plaque with the words Home, Sweet Home adorns the wall over the mantelpiece. Just to the left is a doorway, minus a door, beckoning us to investigate the aroma drifting our way. As we step into the kitchen we are overtaken by the rich smell of freshly baked bread. Dad is removing the loaves from the belly of Old Bessie, our coal-burning cookstove. He leaves them to cool in neat rows on our homemade plank table. Turning toward the back door, we see an honest-to-goodness ice box, and yes, theres a genuine silver quarter for the ice man to take in exchange for 50 pounds of dripping ice. I can picture him now as he snatches the tongs tightly into the frozen block, causing tiny slivers of sparkling ice to fly everywhere. Swinging it down off the back of his chug-a-lug of a truck and instantly throwing his other arm up to keep his balance, he staggers with his load toward the back door. Hoisting the block of ice into place, he gives a long, loud sigh of relief and drops the shiny quarter into his pocket. Stepping outside the back door, we suddenly realize there is no running water in the kitchen, for here stands the only water pipe around. Data was collected by use of questionnaires which were administered to the 50 FSU nurses. As managers it is a priority to identify issues and potential opportunities. â€Å"Change is often planned to close a discrepancy between the desired and actual state of affairs. Discrepancies may arise because of problems in reaching performance goals or because new goals have been created. Opportunities demand change as much as (or more than) problems do, but they are often overlooked. Be it a problem or an opportunity, it must be identified clearly† (Sullivan, E.J. & Decker, P.J., 2009). A manager should continually strive to assess the strengths and weaknesses of their staff and incorporate these observations into recommended improvements associated with change within the organization. Strategies such as the power-coercive strategy, normative–reeducative strategies, or the empirical-rational model can assist managers in the implementation process. Also, a continuous quality improvement plan should include a link to key elements of the organization’s strategic plan, quality council made up of the institution’s top leadership, training programs for personnel, mechanisms for selecting improvement opportunities, formation of process improvement teams, staff support for process analysis and redesign, personnel policies that motivate and support staff participation in process improvement, and the most current and rigorous techniques of the scientific method and statistical process control (Sollecito, W. A., & Johnson, J. K., 2013). Once change has been implemented management must then observe and evaluate the benefits and strains the staff and the organization are facing in order to ensure the success of the implemented change. Identifying any resistance or struggles with the implemented change should always be a priority of management to ensure continued success. â€Å"Resistance prevents the unexpected. It forces the change agent to clarify information, keep interest level high, and establish why change is necessary. It draws attention to potential problems and encourages ideas to solve them. Resistance is a stimulant as much as it is a force to be overcome. As a management team it is suggested to always be aware of not only individual organization but also occurring changes in organizations across the nation. By staying informed, the organizations and managers can always promise that there is a constant awareness of potential improvement found in all forms of health care across the nation, ensuring that a problem faced or benefit gained at another facility will never be overlooked. Quality can be greatly affected internally within an organization. Considering that internal factors can be monitored and controlled mainly from within, it is considerably easier to manage, though these factors have a much more direct and immediate effect on the organization where the management responsibility lies. Internal contributors that factor into quality outcomes include leadership styles, administrative policies, and organizational culture. These factors, if not performed to standard or with minimal empathy can cause stress among staff indirectly affecting the consumers. An unpleasant environment may lead to a low morale and dissatisfaction throughout the organization. (Suchman, A., 2001) Above all, management and staff must always have an open mind and an open heart concerning the consumers and the overall benefit of the organizations. Providing services and actually caring for staff are what sets apart the common from the exceptional manager and management team. By implementing these change processes will do just that. Hopefully in this day we do not have these problems. I think that just because you are a different race or religion does not mean that you should be denied the proper care and supervision.
